The German Gymnasium impressed with the fantastic food, friendly service and a mesmerising interior decorated by McQueens.

At the beginning of February, I had the pleasure to attend an exclusive event hosted by the fantastic ladies from Brillante Events. They invited me and another blogger, Kellie, to the stunning German Gymnasium restaurant for Afternoon Tea and Champagne.

Taking a German to a German restaurant is like Christmas day for children.

Since I've been living in the UK I crave German food like nothing else, from the Bratwurst to Apfelkuchen and Sauerkraut. There is nothing else I would rather stuff my face with than good, traditional German food at the moment. So this was obviously a restaurant made for me, which also meant I had super high expectations.

The German Gymnasium: Beautiful building, stunning food and friendly staff - what could you want more?

One foot in the building and I was immediately mesmerised by the stunning interior. Black marble everywhere and I couldn't help but wonder if I could move in. The staff at the front desk were wonderful and walked me to our table where I was greeted with Champagne. We spent the next hour or so chatting, laughing and taking as many pictures as possible until we were walked to our table downstairs.

The food, oh my god. I couldn't help but cry a little bit from the inside out of excitement. I had 'The German Style' afternoon tea selection which included little rolls and cake. Oh, the cake. I still dream about it now. It reminded me of being 8 again, sitting in my great grandma's garden and eating her homemade cake.

The Story behind The German Gymnasium

The building was originally built as the first ever Gymnasium in England in 1865. It was used by the German gymnastics team to train for the upcoming Olympics. It has since then undergone a huge transformation and was turned into a captivating restaurant, yet still remains historical and true to its original looks. It's stylish, elegant and just sexy. It provides the perfect atmosphere for a few too many Instagram pics and cocktails.

In case you are still looking for the perfect restaurant for Valentine's Day, why not give this beauty a try?

Also, the bathrooms are just 'oh my god, this is so beautiful' and they play German music in it. My kinda place.
