“ Every story I create creates me. I write to create myself. Because being myself isn't easy"

'Be yourself' is advice given to us on a regular basis and applies to many different occasions from first dates, to job interviews and new starts. It's quite the odd thing to say really, because why wouldn't we be ourselves, right? But in a world like ours where people expect so much from us, it can be really difficult to be ourselves sometimes. Especially in a competitive world like ours - blogging.

Every blogger wants to find their voice and try to fit in, but sometimes showing who you really are can be harder than one may think. You do what is expected of you, be polite and don't really show a strong opinion in case it may offend someone. Personally, I can fully put my hand up for this. I was such a people pleaser at the beginning and often a tad fake too.

I am a very honest and direct person so that behaviour was very unlike me. But I felt like I had to behaviour in a certain manner, in order to be a 'good/right blogger'. Yet there isn't even such a thing as a correct blogger anyway.

“ Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”

Once I stopped being someone else everything had changed. My work became more authentic and people related to my posts, they felt the same as I did and I finally felt like I had achieved something. Those achievements came through being myself, a full on German who is at times a bit too direct and always speaks her mind.

“Faithless to be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

Being yourself can be difficult. It takes time, a lot of risk and courage to show others who you really are through your written words, but that's exactly why people will love you and return. My personal success has come from personal posts, the ones where I write from my heart and opened up about my mistakes or worries.

It can be scary to open up, show a more vulnerable side but that's what makes us human. People will have something they can relate too and build a connection - remember to not overshare, though - and that connection will lead to loyal readers who respect and value you.

Be you, be the quirky, funny, adorable, authentic and beautiful you.

Don't be afraid to be yourselfThere can only be one you. Don't be second rate version of someone else, if you can be your awesome self and people will love you for it.

  2. Loved this post. I feel the exact same as a full time blogger. I am so tough on myself sometimes and compare myself to a lot of other bloggers. However, being myself is what my blog is all about!

  4. This is so true. It's so important to be yourself and stay true your beliefs. It's hard to please everyone but I think as long as you keep it real then the rest isn't a big deal!

  7. Yay for being you! I totally believe in this and honestly think that while it's hard to make the step to revealing your authentic self, it must be much more exhausting to blog pretending to be someone else all the time!
