'Aspiration and inspiration are the foundations for engagement on platforms like Instagram'.

So, let's talk about Instagram. The app that has opened up so many doors for me in the world of blogging and influencing. But also the app that irritates and really annoys me at the moment.

My main issue lately is the new algorithm and the follow/unfollow technique. For example, this morning I woke up to 13 new followers, yet when I went on my profile I only gained 2 more followers since I went to bed. I lost 11 followers in my sleep - kinda like if they are punishing me for sleeping. But this happens all the time, in fact, it possibly happens every single night and definitely won't stop anytime soon. At first, I thought it was me and started to wonder what I was doing wrong, but it's never us (unless of course you go around leaving negative comments). Those who use bots are the problem, they are making our lives miserable and ruining the Instagram experience.

Instagram is there to share pretty images, make your life look way fancier than it actually is and in my case, to also grow a career out of it. We all have our ways to make things look 'instagrammable', there is no need to hide it. But what isn't cool is when people use fake ways to make themselves look popular - whether it's fake likes, comments, followers or the ever so hated follow/unfollow method. It's not cool and ruins it for people who worked so hard to gain a real following.

Instagram is my creative outlet, stop ruining it.
FYI, since I started writing this I have gained 5 followers yet my numbers are down.
My Instagram feed is something I am super proud of recently, it's exactly how I always wanted it to look like. I want to show it off and clearly am interested in gaining more followers - no need to lie here. But does that mean I'm gonna start using bots to gain followers in fake ways and basically cheat the game? NO. So neither should you.

I once had a girl follow and unfollow me 5 times and when I asked her to stop doing that, she started accusing me of lying and pretended to not use bots. I really love Instagram, but people like that ruin it for me and really take the fun out of it. Just work on your feed, upload good photographs and write catchy captions.

I would not be where I am, without Instagram.
As crazy as it sounds and you should never trust strangers on the Internet obviously, but I have made some pretty amazing friendships through Instagram and it helped me grow my blog as well. So despite all the hate, I still love the app more than any other, I just wish it would go back to its old self.
I recently had a chat with some other girls and all we did was to cry about our recent experiences with Instagram. But instead of letting it ruin our days and taking away the fun, let's just pity those that need 'fake' numbers in order to make themselves feel better?

I would lie if I say it won't affect me anymore, but I will try to no let it bring me down but instead remember that I'm better than those.

  2. I don't like the algorithm with Instagram as you follow people because you want to see all their posts not for them to hidden underneath those you follow with huge interactions x

  9. I've only recently started Instagram, and I have fallen in love. But I totally agree, the whole follow/unfollow thing is PATHETIC! I see that I have say 10 more followers, go and check, and I have the same amount I did yesterday. It's stupid!
    P.S Your Instagram is beautiful!

  10. Instagram was my favourite platform for a long time, but now it's sadly a forgotten thought. I put it down to the algorithm changes and the issues of follow/unfollowers as well as bots. It's a shame really. I've gotten more into Twitter as of late, but I do miss the way Instagram used to be. x

  11. I don't look at any of the follow/ unfollow apps as I'd rather just see my total number and perhaps get to smile once a week that it has risen. Mich x

  13. I don't have personal experience of Instagram myself, but work on it for someone's behalf, so I see a lot of this type of thing happening. I feel it is such a useful platform, and I love seeing so many different takes on it; it is just a shame that things like you experience happen so much. Keep up the good work, and those that really do appreciate you will let you know.
