Understand your value and know your worth.

The big world of blogging can be so scary to a newbie. We've all been there, we've all done it and yet I see so many starters repeat the same mistakes we've all done already. So why not share our mistakes with others?

This post is all about my personal experience as a newbie blogger and not understanding or knowing my worth. I made so many mistakes, took on so many unpaid assignments and didn't receive anything in return - not even a simple shoutout sometimes! I worked my butt off, created content, put myself out there and then 'sold myself out' for some matcha green tea.I was new, I didn't know any better and thought this might be the step to becoming a famous blogger - could I be any more naive? So embarrassing. So, don't do what I did.

Knowing your worth as a blogger, as a person, is important from the very beginning.

When I took on unpaid work, accepted free reviews and advertising I basically gave them the okay to approach other bloggers and not offer them anything in return - I mean, they got me to say yes. People constantly approach me asking for free work, or even asking me to buy the product and then I get a shout out in return. When has that even become acceptable? But unfortunately I see so many of my followers and other bloggers fall for it. It's a circle that needs to end.

We all deserve to be paid for our work. A doctor or window cleaner wouldn't work for free, so why should we?

Be confident, show them that you are worth something and don't hesitate. Sometimes you end up turning 20 crappy assignments down, but the good ones will come. Just be patient.

Little Tip: Create an amazing media kit and brands can only say yes (you can find templates for free on Google). Ask other bloggers for help if needed, we all gotta stick together right?

The Gingham Trend

As I mentioned in a previous post, Personal Style vs Fashion, I'm not someone to follow every trend out there. But if it's something so cute how can I not? This ruffled Gingham skirt is just everything I need this season. Styled with a cute blouse and it makes for a perfect outfit. My Favourite Gingham Pieces:

  2. Absolutely, always know your worth. My top tip is, be willing to walk away. It's the best way to negotiate. :-)

  4. Haha, matcha green tea! I totally agree - bloggers are taken advantage of constantly. They have to pay for marketing everywhere else - why do they expect the best form of advertising - bloggers, who are relatable and honest - to be free?

    1. Yeah the green tea, haha! I feel so embarrassed now having done it, just doesn't fit my blog, style or niche haha! That is so true, everyone pays of TV ads and stuff like that and we bloggers are just a different kind of content source :)

    1. Haha, I did that tea one when I was like 6 months into blogging and I didn't even do any food or drink reviews. Looking back at it now I'm so embarrassed, haha! It was so obvious at those times - that is true, I've definitely learned from it and only take on work now I actually am passionate about! Thanks lovely xx

  7. I used to do the same, taking on reviews even if I wasn't that passionate about it because I got so excited about getting sent stuff. Now I only take on work I want to write about and always ask for payment. Usually I don't get payment but I will only take on unpaid if I really want that product x

    1. Yes, that was basically me! Some of the reviews I took on where so embarrassing, like why did I do that - oh well, mistakes are there to learn from. If I'm really passionate about the product I happily do it unpaid as well :)
