Embroidery and becoming confident in your style with New Look

The embroidery trend has been one of my favourites this season. It's feminine, bold and anything but your grandma's tablecloth - was she even your grandma if the table wasn't full with white and embroidered tablecloths (FYI, this might be a German thing)?? Anyway, the embroidery trend can be subtle, dominant and isn't just for girly-girls. It's colourful stitch work that adds detail to any outfit and makes your plain tee or denim that extra special.

Shop New Look's embroidery items here.

The embroidery trend can easily be incorporated into any outfit and make it that more special. Imagine wearing a plain white tee with some jeans and a pair of sneakers, nothing special right? Now imagine that jeans or the sneakers with embroidery on - much better, right? Adding one piece of embroidery can make the difference.

Now onto my outfit. I styled this beautiful mesh, embroidered top with palazzo trousers, a bag in green that matches the embroidery on the top and some black lace-up sandals. As petite women myself it can be hard finding trousers that fit my small waist, I can get over my butt and are not 10m too long. However, New Look has a stunning petite section. The clothes always impress me and the selection is decent. If you are like me and have short legs, please check out New Look in case you haven't already.

How to become more confident in your style

Over the past year, my style has changed a lot, not just because trends come and go. But more because I have grown as a person. I got more confident with my body, which immediately reflected on my style. One day I looked in the mirror and for once I didn't think about my problem areas, but instead embraced the good ones and felt satisfaction and happiness. A mirror is like a weapon and for a long period of time, I used it to criticise myself. Especially after my surgery, it was quite tough getting to terms with the scar, the way how it made my stomach look and what it reminded me off. But at the same time, it also reminded me of how strong it made me. Instead of using a mirror as a way to put yourself down we should use it the opposite. Go to your mirror and point out one thing you like the most about yourself; the next time you do your makeup or get dressed use that to your advantage and make it stand out.

'The colour looks amazing on you', 'that eyeshadow really brings out your eye colour', 'your butt looks amazing in those jeans'. Remember those comments the next time you feel unsure in an outfit and put those jeans on that makes you feel like J. Lo. Add some more highlighter and make your face pop. Do whatever works for you, whatever makes you feel sexy and gives you that confidence boost.

'Give a woman the right pair of shoes and she can conquer the world'

It couldn't be truer. We all feel better when we wear our favourite outfit, it reflects to the outside and makes us feel powerful in a way.

Ensemble Empowerment:

1. Don't like it, don't wear it

You know that moment when you find something in the sale and think you can make it work but aren't 100% sure? If it doesn't have that oomph moment, don't get it. Whenever I rush and just put stuff together without actually thinking about it I will feel like it. A bad outfit reflects on my face, my mood and my overall well-being in a way. Wearing a bad outfit has negative effects, just like how wearing a good outfit has positive ones.

Put your clothes out the day before so you won't have to worry about last-minute decisions.

2. Good outfits call for adventures

You know that feeling when you wear a hot outfit and you want everybody to see you? A good outfit can lead to a more exciting life maybe. Whenever I feel really good in an outfit I go to more places and end falling in love with a new restaurant in London. Use clothing not just to walk around naked, but to make you feel different.

3. Treat yourself

Sometimes we think too much of what other people may think of us our outfit. Don't care about them. Wear what makes you happy, comfortable and confident. My boyfriend doesn't always like everything I buy and wear, but it makes me feel good and that's what matters. Don't neglect yourself, put yourself first sometimes and treat yourself.

We all deserve to feel our best and have that oomph moment in a clothing piece. Everyone can enjoy fashion in their own way, that's the beauty of it.

  1. WOW this is a stunning outfit and one I love. I am a big fan of Embroidery and lace and this looks right up my street. I love the red flowers on the top. I agree it's good to treat yourself and not worry what others think but what you love.

  5. Great post. I love the 'if you don't like it don't wear it' seems so obvious but it's so easy to hang onto things that don't really suit us
