Designer Dupes - To dupe or not to dupe?

We can't escape from runway fashion trends. Everything we wear has been inspired by a trend from Fashion Week; it's what gives high-street brands the inspiration. Not everyone can splurge money on stuff like there is no tomorrow as well. Dupes are therefore great for those who don't have that spare cash for a £1000 bag; your girl gotta eat and pay bills first too. Also, instead of one or two mega expensive designer bag, I rather have 20 to mix things up a bit. However, the main issue with dupes is when they are no longer a look-a-like but more a cheap copy of the real deal; I do get that. But places like Zara and Mango, for example, have mastered the art of the perfect dupes; taking note from the big once and putting their own twists on it; so why not follow the trend of the dupe?

Dupes here, Dupes there, Dupes everywhere - where can I find one? BELOW are my favourites.

Designer: Paying for the name or the quality?
Dupes: An affordable way to follow trends or stealing someone's design?
Fake: A cheap knock off pretending to be the real deal or another word for the Dupe?

Why I buy Dupes

A fake is a replica pretending to the real deal, a dupe has similar features to the designer product but doesn't claim to be said designer product. I think we can all agree on the fact that we would all buy designer products if we had the spare cash, but we don't all have that. Not everyone has rich parents or a well-paid job in their early twenties or even in their forties. I would love to buy myself a Chanel Bag, but why would I now use up all my savings for a bag? That's not being a responsible adult but rather an idiot. I rather have dupes until I can invest in a designer bag; until I have that job of my dreams. Right now I'm happy with my Gucci Dionysus dupe bag from Primark - people look at it and now it's not Gucci, but they still compliment how inspired it is by Gucci.

Did you know that Diesel Jeans are made in the same factory as other high-street brands? With Diesel, you pay for the name, not quality. Just to give you something to think about.

Designer prices don't always mean designer quality. There are so many similar versions, or dupes, to the big once and there should be no shame in buying and showcasing them (Different story of course if you pretend it's the real one, I'm all against fakes/replicas).

  1. As someone who loves fashion AND used to work at MoneySavingExpert, I completely agree with your ethos Shelley! Primarni all the way ;) x

  2. It seems like the perfect way to be able to extend and enhance your wardrobe without paying through the nose. Sometimes dupes look as good as the real thing.

  3. I have absolutely no problem with designer dupes but this really depends on what it is, how obvious it is and the quality of the dupe. Like, you wouldn't want to get a fake designer handbag that'll fall apart in a week but a dress is not problem. Each to their own though!

  4. I'm not worried about designer names, I prefer a nice design and comfort so dupes are all good with me x

  5. I'm all about affordable things and not against dupes, but it depends on the quality of the dupe and the price of the original sometimes it just worth the money even though is a little more expensive, and that applies to all material things in life so I believe is a matter of product quality and the money you have at the that particular time. But in this case I have to completely agree with you on the dupes, it would be an irresponsible decision for me to buy a chanel bag when I can have a perfectly affordable dupe with good quality, for example.

  6. I think quality is what I tend to go for these days. Sometimes I am happy paying the price is I know somethinf will last or can be used through out the year.

  7. My OH never worries about brand names on clothes... In face, she often tries to avoid them, simply because of the cost. We've been saving up for a house deposit, and now for our daughter's future, so neither of us really go for branded luxury items.

  8. I don't think there's anything wrong with buying dupes. I will never be able to afford a real designer bag and I don't think I'd be stupid enough to spend ££££ on one, when I can get a cheaper alternative!

  9. I never buy designer stuff, it is too expensive so more than happy with a duplicate

  10. I am all for designer copies - designer stuff is scarily expensive and it's not always worth the price tag

  11. Whilst I do love the odd designer item, I love to save my money and buy dupes too - you can't go wrong with some high street dupes can you?

  12. I honestly don't mind fashion dupes, I cannot afford to be buying everything designer so it's a massive yes from me! x

  13. I don't mind dupes if they aren't 100% similar to the real thing and are more like inspired pieces.
